Entrepreneurship Development Program for Startups

From January 29 to February 18 EDMC will conduct an Entrepreneurship Development Program for the finalist teams of StartUp Cup competition. The Program, implemented by EDMC’s subcontractor Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development (CEED), will consist of three components – training, teamwork, and consulting. The training part will be based on the CEFE methodology (Competency-based Economies through Formation of Enterprise). In addition to learning and developing their entrepreneurial skills, the teams will also develop business plans and, upon completion of the program, will be provided with an opportunity to apply for the SME DNC startup loans.

Training in Good Manufacturing Practices

EDMC and the GxP Centre of Excellence will hold a training course on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for pharmaceutical companies and interning students from January 28 to February 2, 9:30-15:00. The course is certified by the Armenia Ministry of Health. Participants will acquire an in-depth of understanding of these practices in the European Union and how to effectively implement them at work. Besides the sessions, participants will also take a tour to Liqvor factory. The course costs 65,000AMD. EDMC will cover 40,000AMD per participant.

Job Opening: Expert in Public Management System and the State Budget Planning

ANNOUNCEMENT CODE: PA-BEIT-029 

JOB DESCRIPTION: The aim of this initiative is the involvement of a qualified individual consultant (hereinafter, “the Consultant”), who will support the Ministry of Finance of Armenia in terms of developing and drafting legal acts, amendments to the legal acts in the public management system and the state budget planning, giving official explanations to unclear or vague statements of current legislation. Legal background is a plus.

START DATE/ TIME: ASAP

DURATION: 25 business days with possible extension

OPENING DATE: 25 January, 2013

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Upon receiving a task, develop and present for discussion draft legal acts within the official time limits as agreed.
  • Consider and incorporated the comments received in regard to the draft legal acts.
  • The Consultant shall examine the comments provided by the Ministry and within 1 week, following the day of their receipt, submit to the Ministry the final versions of drafts and the summary sheet of opinions.
  • The Consultant will work in close cooperation with the legal and regulatory experts at the Ministry of Finance of Armenia and will advise them on framework and technical aspects of public administration and state budget planning, as appropriate.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: international master’s degree, preferably in Law;
  • Work Experience: at least 5 year experience in public administration and/or state budget planning, drafting of legal acts in the public administration/budget planning sector is required (experience of working in such assignments financed by donors will be advantageous).
  • Knowledge: Good knowledge of Armenian, EU and donor regulations on procurement. Fluent knowledge of English and Russian languages.

Tender Announcement: Law Firms to deal with customs clearance

TITLE: Law Firm to Deal with Customs Clearance of Goods

DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY: The Law Firm will work closely with the Project to provide assistance and advice to the target SMEs in the process of customs clearance of goods. The target SMEs will obtain legal assistance in the process of preparing the customs declaration and will be legally represented at the customs point throughout the process of the customs clearance of goods.

START DATE/ TIME: ASAP

THE FOLLOWING TASKS WILL BE CARRIED OUT:

  • Assist the target SMEs in developing customs declaration forms and in the process of customs clearance of goods;
  • Be present at the customs point and fully represent the client;
  • Provide consultations to target SMEs;
  • Challenge the decision/s of the customs authorities before the superior customs authorities and/or the domestic court;
  • Provide to EDMC a cost estimate in relation to each case they undertake;
  • Develop a follow up report by identifying the problems faced by each client and the steps taken to address them.

REQUIRED EXPERTISE:

The clients will have consultations with, and be advised by licensed attorneys who will have the following expertise:

  • Experience dealing with customs procedures;
  • Experience in developing customs declarations for clients;
  • Experience in working with clients and advising them on customs matters;
  • High profile in respecting conventional relationships between lawyer and client and incurring degree of liability and obligations in relation to clients;
  • Experience in challenging the decisions of the customs authorities before the courts;
  • Experience in developing reports to the satisfaction of donor organizations;
  • Experience of working with a donor organization/project is a plus.

Charges: The hourly rate of the services by the Law Firm should not exceed AMD 12.000 (twelve thousand drams).

Black Sea Silk Road Corridor project launch

On January 24, EDMC will sign a grant agreement with the Armenian Monuments Awareness Project (AMAP), a Non-government Organization (NGO) implementing the Black Sea Silk Road Corridor (BSSRC) project.

BSSRC, jointly funded by the European Union, AMAP, and USAID through EDMC, is a 24-month project that will foster cross-border cooperation and economic development in 100 communities across four countries of the Black Sea Basin – Armenia Georgia, Greece and Turkey. BSSRC, with AMAP as the lead implementer in Armenia, will also alleviate rural isolation and develop local communities through ego-friendly tourism to both enhance visitor’s experiences and protect cultural monuments and biodiversity.

Top Class Session on Intellectual Property Rights

On January 24th EDMC will hold a Top Class Program session on “Intellectual Property Rights Protection,” which will be led by Sargis Knazyan, Managing Partner of Knazyan & Partners Intellectual Property Law Firm.

This program is implemented by EDMC’s implementing partner Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development (CEED). The Program invites entrepreneurs and managers to attend interactive training sessions led by highly successful business leaders and experts from Armenia and abroad on select business topics, take part in networking events and conferences, obtain personalized advice from seasoned entrepeneurs, and get introduced to potential investors.

Training of Trainers on Entrepreneurship Course

From January 21st to January 25th EDMC will conduct a training of trainers on an Entrepreneurship Course designed for higher education institutions. Select trainers from Armenian education institutions and universities will participate and get training on how to deliver the course to attract university students to entrepreneurship and business planning.

Top Class Session on Raising Capital

On January 17 EDMC will organize a Top Class Program session on “How to Raise Capital,” which will be led by Roger Strauch, Chairman of Roda Group, and Samvel Sahakyan, SEAF Investment Officer.

This program is implemented by EDMC’s implementing partner Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development (CEED). The program invites entrepreneurs and managers to attend interactive training sessions led by highly successful business leaders and experts from Armenia and abroad on select business topics, take part in networking events and conferences, obtain personalized advice from seasoned entrepreneurs, and get introduced to potential investors.

Bi-Annual Conference of the World Federation of Tourism Guide Associations

The World Federation of Tourism Guide Associations (WFTGA) will launch its bi-annual conference in Macao, China on January 9th, 2013. The Conference will be held till January 18th. This event is an important undertaking for tourism guides to discuss issues, innovations, participate in business forums and seminars under the umbrella of WFTGA. EDMC supports the Armenian Guides Guild (AGG) to participate in the conference in an effort to support AGG plans to establish a regional guides training center and to hold an international guides convention in Yerevan in 2013.
